Motts Children's Hospital Volunteer Event - THIS SAT

Motts children's hospital volunteer event is held on this Saturday from 1:30PM
Please contact Lindsay Sklar (sklarl@umich.edu) if you are interested!

Pre-med workshop rescheduled

EMRO members,

Because of the low amount of RSVPs (10) for the pre-med workshop, it will be postponed to a few more weeks. This will allow more time for everyone to evaluate their schedules way in advance so we can plan a good workshop. I will let you know when the eboard has rescheduled this event.

If anyone is still interested and would like urgent pre-med advice, please contact me and I will refer you to the person who is running the workshop for our organization.

Thanks!

Pre-med/Pre-health Workshop, Oct. 17th (RSVP required)

Dear EMRO members,

Aside from those 2 volunteer events, we have also scheduled a pre-med workshop for Wednesday, October 17 from 4-5 in the Michigan League Room A. I need to know who would be interested in this.

I have worked to book a pre-med advisor and we must know how many people will be attending. Please RSVP to me by THURSDAY OCTOBER 11.

We need a certain number of people there in order to keep this appointment. The advisor has a presentation prepared and you will be able to ask about the med school application process, the pre-med curriculum, as well as any advice for the pre-health process in general.

I will remind you, this will count for one of the five events required for the year.

Please consider attending, thank you,

FYI: Teach for America and Pre-Meds

Teach For America Conference Calls

Admissions deans from two top medical schools will be hosting conference calls for pre-med students across the country to discuss Teach For America and medical school admissions. We invite you to join a call to learn more about their views on Teach For America, why his/her medical school values the experience of our corps members, and how the Teach For America experience fits into a career in medicine. In addition, each dean will be able to answer questions relating to the medical school application process in general and their medical school in particular.

Tuesday, October 2, 5:00 - 6:00 PM EST
Dr. Lloyd Michael, Senior Associate Dean for Admissions
Baylor College of Medicine
Dial-in Number: (712) 432-3900
Conference Access Code: 5572803 #

Thursday, October 18, 3:00-4:00 PM EST
Mr.. Richard Silverman, Director of Admissions
Yale School of Medicine
Dial-in Number: (712) 432-3900
Conference Access Code: 5572803 #

If you are interested in attending a call, please RSVP to medschoolcall@teachforamerica.org and include your name, undergrad University, undergrad grad date, and the call(s) you plan on attending.
There's a limit to the number of callers that can be on a call, so by RSVPing, we can determine whether we need to add additional calls or not. Each dean will devote the bulk of each call answering callers' questions, so you are encouraged to e-mail questions in advance to
medschoolcall@teachforamerica.org though you may also have an opportunity to ask additional questions on the call.

EMRO Membership clarification

There is a link to our organization's constitution or other misc info on the bottom right of the page, if you want to find out.   I'll be updating the information as soon as possible.  Our board hasn't finalized on the details of the club code yet, but I will be posting them online after e-board meeting on Wednesday evening.

Even though we haven't finalized on the details, the requirements for the membership would probably be to attend certain amount of the activities (around 5 or less) that we will be holding through out the semester, and a small fee for a membership (usually EMRO only, FAST probably won't).

For FAST, you will be contacted by a related personnel and will go through training to get certified.

For EMRO, you might be required to pay the membership fee, if you want to get an official membership (price hasn't been set, but it won't cost too much).

Participation or attendance to the activities don't require membership so you are always welcomed to come.  We are pretty loose organization and we usually don't hold regular mass meetings.  Instead, we will be sending out information about upcoming events and you can sign up if the event interests you.

AGAIN THIS IS NOT A FINALIZED INFO, CHECK BACK THIS WEBSITE AFTER WEDNESDAY, Sep. 19th
